Block 5 is Greek Cross from Barbara of Me & My Sister.
This was a fun and fairly quick block to make.
It is a great opportunity to use a fussy cut fabric for the centre E square in this block. For both my large and small blocks I have fussy cut a flower for this piece, and I think it is worth the effort.
You can see I have cut the B squares from toweling for the 9" block. I have cut the square so the stripes run diagonally across both squares, giving the impression of them radiating out from the centre of the block.
When you do this, make sure you sew across the correct diagonal, when make the HST's. If you sew parallel to the stripes the stripes will run across the corners. If you sew perpendicular to the stripes, then stripes will radiate out towards the corners, as mine do.
When I cut the pieces for the 4 ½" block I placed the stripes in the D section. I chose to run the stripes parallel to the short sides of the 1 ¼" x 2 " rectangle and each of the four D pieces match. This provides the block with a lovely symmetry.
I pressed the seams open on the HST's which reduces the bulk a little in the corners.
I am really enjoying seeing all your blocks pop up on the Facebook group and don't forget to tag me @piecestotreasure if you post your block on Instagram.
Happy Sewing
Jenelle
